Primary School Teachers

July 31, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Ester and Manual at Primary SchoolOur Spanish students Manuel and Ester visited the Byron Bay Primary school to join the kindergarten class. Both students are qualified primary school teachers in Spain and were interested to see the Australian style of teaching and schooling.

“The children are very friendly and talked so much with us. Naturally we find them easier to understand than some of the Australian people we have met here in Byron Bay. It was an interesting experience for us. Thanks to the BBELS school staff who helped us to have this experience.”

Sadly they have to return to Spain. But their one month stay at the Byron Bay English Language School was one they will always remember. They watched the sun rise from Cape Byron one morning, completed a Learn to Surf Course and spent too many nights at the Railway Friendly Bar.

“We met so many different nationalities at the school – Russian, French, Italians, Korean, Japanese and of course our crazy Taiwanese friends. There were 6 nationalities in our class! Everyone is so friendly. It is very special and we will miss BBELS. Muchas gracias!!!”.

Past BBELS Students Return to Byron Bay!

July 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Juanjo and BorjaWelcome back to Borja and Juanjo. These 2 Spanish boys both studied at BBELS in 2004 for 3 months. Their dream was always to return to Byron Bay. Today they arrived in Byron Bay with big smiles after a long flight from Madrid. They were happy to see 2 of their teachers from 5 years ago.

“We had such a good time in 2004. We knew we would come back one day. It is is great to be here again. The school is slightly bigger now but still friendly and special. And our teachers are still here – Mick and Frank!

Juanjo’s girlfriend is Hitomi, a Japanese girl who also studied at BBELS in 2004. They met at the school and now live togther in Madrid.

“I learned more than English at this school!” Juanjo added.

The Spanish boys will stay for 1 week in Byron bay and then travel for 3 weeks to the central part of Australia. After that they will meet Hitomi in Tokyo.

We wish them well

Mad Max’s Play

July 17, 2009 · Leave a Comment

shifting-sands

Many of you know Max as the activities guy, the funny man, the table tennis champion, the bike man, the BBQ guy… Did you also know that Max is a thespian (adj. actor)?

“ON SHIFTING SANDSHOES”

A Comedy about Surviving the Great Australian holiday

On Shifting Sandshoes follows a group of friends as they try and survive a few days trapped on a camping trip due to cyclonic conditions.
‘This is the pre-mobile phone era. Being cut off was a bit more serious! It puts the relationships under stress, and the play turns from light comedy to dark comedy. When you are camping your existence is more fragile – the weather is like another character.’” (Byron Shire Echo 14 July 2009).

Who are Australians?
What do they really stand for?
How come they’re so obsessed with sports?
How rocky are many of their “committed relationships”?   And…
Why do so many love to go camping every summer in places where they know
some kind of natural disaster is almost certain to occur?

If you would like to know the answers to these questions see Max in his amazingly Australian play, ask him about tickets and a student discount.
